U14 Girls v Bury Rangers (away), League - 28.1.12

All unbeaten runs must eventually come to an end and today it was our turn, after 15 and a half months and 28 league games.
Bury broke the deadlock after 11 minutes, breaking quickly after winning the ball in midfield, Nene, their tall striker descending on goal and despite Skye's best efforts in closing the angles, the ball slipped over the line. A second came by a similar route before half-time which completed the games' scores. What this short summary doesn't describe though is the lack of luck Stortford experienced. An early chance saw Tia through on goal, only to be flagged off-side despite Bury's right back clearly playing her on by some yards. A penalty was also not forthcoming when Ellie-Mae was brought down early in the match from a challenge which eventually saw her sidelined early in the second half. Ball met post too and on another day the final score-line could have been radically different. However both teams left the ground after a phenomenal game that was a fantastic advertisement for girls youth football and will resume their rivalry in the Herts County Cup semi-final next weekend.

Team: Skye, Simi, Emily (c), Tyler, Abigail, Abby, Faye, Scarlett, Ellie-Mae, Inka, Tia
