Butlin's Bognor Regis Tour

Had a text from ESFF (the tournament/tour organisers) to say that places are going fast for their 2012 tournaments.

Reviewing our options, our best course of action is to return to Bognor as it is over a bank holiday weekend and therefore doesn't impact school days.
Dates are 4th - 7th May 2012.

Our first step is to register the team (£129 per team) so can I therefore ask for £10 per player to cover this. Once received I will register us.
Likely overall cost will be £150 per attendee (player or parent/family member). Once the team is registered we can then move to booking accommodation and the earlier we do this, the more options will be available (Hotel/Gold/Silver/Standard).

thanks

Mark

"We went to have fun and came home with a win" was Tyler's summary of the weekend and I couldn't put it better. Our merry band of 32 descended on Butlin's in Bognor Regis on Royal Wedding Day and three days later returned home tired, happy and with a rather large trophy. Along the way we saw and played our old friends from Bury Rangers in Hertford, made new friends in LTD Wildkats from Thurrock and closed out the tournament victory with a consummate display against Leigh Ramblers, undefeated Essex League champions who counted a sprinkling of ex-Millwall Academy players in their number.
The weekend also saw the creation of the 'Spoon Army' with their special salute and the further bonding of our wonderful players and supporters into an extended family, with the weekend climaxing on the Sunday night with our own team presentation, tour court and then the razzle-dazzle spectacular of the Tournament presentation in the company of England’s Sue Smith and Huerelho Gomes from Spurs.
Very special thanks to Jane and Michelle for helping to organise the tour, to Tracey, Karl and Mike for executing the tour court and to everyone for making it such a terrific weekend.

Tour Squad (with scorers in brackets): Skye Wilkinson, Emily Tranter, Tyler Hyde, Louise Crocker, Simi Sunda(1), Abigail Stevens, Scarlett Archer(3), Elly Roberts, Abby Springham, Faye Galloway(1), Inka Pearson(2) and Tia Dye(6).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Our tour to Bognor Regis approaches so we have pulled together some useful information in one place so that everyone can be fully prepared.

What to take
We are all accommodated in 'Silver Apartments' which are designed for self-catering and therefore reasonably well furnished and equipped. Essential items that you should make sure you bring are:
Wooden spoon & something blue!!!
Towels
Personal toiletries
Extra bedding - my own experience is based on a rugby tour to Pontin's Brean Sands, where the sheets and blankets were just about adequate. You may wish to throw-in a sleeping bag or quilt, just in case!
Player's kit - make sure you bring light blue shirts as well as our normal kit. I will be handing out a new pair of socks on Tuesday (along with tour hoodies) for all players as I don't want Jason, Scott or anyone else slaving over the apartment sink cleaning socks for Sunday's games :)
Gazebo - if you have room it would be handy to bring along. I will be bringing ours but having two or three means we have full coverage from sun or rain as required!

When to go & when to leave
You can arrive at any time after 10am on Friday and make full use of the facilities, however you won't be able to check into your apartments until 4pm. Room booking confirmations will be distributed on Tuesday at training. You must have checked out of your rooms by 10am on Monday, however again full site facilities are available for the rest of the day.

How to get there
The postcode for SATNAVs is PO21 1JJ.
The following directions are taken from the Butlin's site.
"From the M3 head for the A27, then simply follow the A259 coast road and you can't miss us. We're just one mile east of Bognor Regis on the Littlehampton road near Felpham Village."

The Butlin's Bognor Regis resort
There are plenty of activities around the site to keep you entertained. Click here for a full site map which you might want to print off for reference.

The tournament format & opposition
From the information received, the tournament looks to be running as a league, with no semi-finals or final. There are nine teams entered. Matches are 7 a side and 10 minutes each way. From what I can make out, games will take place at the nearby Felpham Community College (PO22 8EL) which is a 3 minute drive from the resort. We have four games on Saturday afternoon and four on Sunday morning. The teams entered into the competition are of a good standard:
Bury Rangers 'A' - 2nd in Hertfordshire League
Bury Rangers 'B'
Bury Rangers 'C'
Camberley Rascals - mid-table in Surrey League
Leigh Ramblers - Essex League Champions (S&T Academy were 2nd)
LTD Wildkatz - (Little Thurrock Dynamos) 3rd in Essex League
Tigers Black socks - mid-table in Essex League
Tigers Yellow socks

Our itinerary
Friday
Check in when you like, meet up, drink tea, go for a swim, enjoy the sunshine. There is a manager's meeting at 8pm, so we will have a team meeting after that to bring everyone up to speed. Details of this will be confirmed via text and grapevine, but assume around 9pm at one of the apartments.
Saturday
We have four matches through the afternoon so we will like assemble at the tournament venue around mid-day. The first kicks off at 1.40pm and the last at 5.35pm. Once the games are completed and we are back and refreshed, there is a team dinner booked for the evening at Papa Johns for 8pm.
Sunday
Tournament matches start and finish earlier. Our first kick's off at 10am and our last at 1.15pm.
There is a tournament presentation in the evening which will be attended by all teams plus a couple of guest football celebrities. I'm not sure when that will be so timings are to be confirmed but before this we will be holding our own tour presentation followed by an additional activity - details of which will be shared later. Dinner on Sunday night is flexible, but weather permitting, Fish & Chips on the beach has been suggested.
Monday
There will be a team breakfast on Monday morning before departure. When, where and how will be defined through the weekend.

Check back here for the latest information right up to departure.
